Sole Mates 2024

Sole Mates is an annual initiative by Prepare2Fly that partners with community members to provide children with the shoes they need to start the school year with confidence. Originally founded in Alvin, TX, by Regina Stredic—known for her unwavering dedication to helping children—the program has now expanded into Houston County under the leadership of Tricia Hensley and Prepare2Fly. The inspiration for Sole Mates came from a high school student wearing shoes that were barely holding together, igniting a vision to address the growing need for proper footwear among children in our communities.

In its inaugural year, 2024, Sole Mates proudly gave away 154 pairs of shoes across Houston County!

The process is simple and welcoming: students register by saying, “I need shoes,” with no prequalification or judgment. Through the program, individuals in need are paired with their perfect “sole mate”—a generous sponsor who purchases their shoes. On the day of the event, these sponsors and recipients meet, creating meaningful connections that help bridge divides and strengthen the bonds of our community.

Sole Mates is more than just providing shoes; it’s a reflection of the love of Christ and a way to show care and compassion to every child. With the support of our community, we are able to share this gift of confidence and joy, helping students step into their school year feeling valued and prepared.
